Why do people have Massage Therapy?

Many people seek relief for a medical condition or search for a method to help deal with the stresses of daily life.  People are looking to maintain good health and more are turning to therapeutic massage.   Research shows it reduces the heart rate, lowers blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, relaxes muscles, improves range of motion and increases endorphins.

What can I expect from the Center when I book a Massage?
A quiet, peaceful and relaxing private space for your massage.  A Certified Licensed Therapist to effectively meet your needs.  Prior to the massage, you will be asked to fill out a personal health form asking questions about your general health.  This is confidential and designed to help the therapist understand your physical condition prior to beginning your massage.  We feel it is important that you are comfortable during your entire visit and our staff will do their best to accommodate your needs.  Payment for the session is collected upon the booking or paid the day you arrive for your appointment.   We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment to pay for your visit and to insure that you receive the entire time schedule for your massage.

What do I wear during the massage?
Depending on the technique being used you may not need to undress.   For a chair massage, wear a light shirt as you will not undress during this session.   For a full body massage, most people undress completely.  You may choose to keep your under-ware on.   Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress and you will be covered with a sheet at all times.  The sheet will only be removed on the area that is being worked on.   It is your choice.  We want you to be comfortable.

Will the massage oils used make me break out?
Most massage therapists use hypoallergenic massage oils or lotions.  However, if you have sensitivity to certain types of oils or lotions please bring it to the massage therapist's attention as most practitioners have an assortment of oils and lotions on hand.

How long will a massage treatment last?
The average full body massage treatment lasts approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.  A half-hour appointment only allows time for a chair massage or partial massage such as neck and shoulders, back or legs and feet.  Many people prefer a 60-90 minute session for optimal relaxation.  Always allow relaxation time prior to and after the session.

Is a massage always appropriate?
No.   There are several medical conditions that would make massage inappropriate.  That is why it is necessary that you fill out the health history forms before you begin your session.  The massage therapist will contact you before your scheduled appointment and will ask general health questions to rule out if you have any contraindications to massage.  It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking.  If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session.   Your massage therapist may require a recommendation or approval from your doctor.

What do I do during a massage therapy session?
Be comfortable.   If the therapist wants you to adjust your position, she/he will either move you or will ask you to move.  You can move about to make yourself comfortable.   Some people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk.  Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.  .During a massage toxins are released from your soft tissues and it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.   You will feel very relaxed and experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity.  Often you experience increased energy, heightened awareness and greater productivity which can last for days.
